Tinubu says herdsmen crisis caused by water scarcity, Femi Fani-Kayode reacts

APC Chieftain, Bola Tinubu who spoke about the farmers and herdsmen clash that has left many dead and homeless at a national summit on conflict resolution organised by the Nation and TV Continental tagged ‘Towards an Enduring Peace’, said the conflict was caused by scarcity of water, a comment that got the attention of former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode.

At the event, Tinubu who was represented by Sunday Dare, an Executive Commissioner of the Nigerian Communications Commission, said;

“The government must help herders gradually shift from their traditional nomadic existence to a more static lifestyle.  We have to face the reality that modernity is making the nomadic way counterproductive and inefficient.  Unoccupied, isolated land can quickly be turned into grazing areas in the affected states. In the long run, this will enable herders to better maintain their livestock and thus their own livelihood.

“An acutely thirsty man remembers neither Bible nor Quran very well until his thirst is quenched. Dire need often pushes a man to behave as if bereft of compassion for a person in equally dire circumstance.

“No doubt the problem has exacerbated during the past decade. We must assume climate change plays a role” he said

However reacting to the comment, Femi Fani-Kayode tweeted;

To claim that the genocidal agenda of the herdsmen is due to water scarcity,climate change or the drying up of River Chad is a pernicious and disingenious lie. The attempt to cover up the motive and identity of those who indulge in mass murder and ethnic cleansing is despicable.
