The remains of one of Nigeria’s leading scholars in literature and father of ex-beauty queen Sabina Umeh, wife of popular designer, Kese Jabari, Professor Charles Chukwubueze Umeh popularly known as CC Umeh, will be laid to rest today Friday August 23rd.
Born in 1939 in Umugama village of Umuchu town in Aguata LGA of Anambra State, Charles C Umeh was the father of Dr Sabina Umeh, the former Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria 1989 and the father-in-law of the celebrated international fashion designer, Kese Jabari.
A devout Catholic, Professor Umeh will be interred in his compound in Umugama, Umuchu today August 23rd after a requiem Mass.
Umeh after the Nigeria-Biafra war in 1970, emerged as a prizewinner in the BBC London-sponsored “Write a Play for Africa” competition with his entry Double Attack. The play was published in 1973 in the collection African Theatre, Eight Prize-Winning Plays chosen by Wole Soyinka, Martin Esslin and Lewis Nkosi. The book was edited by Gwyneth Henderson as number 134 in the esteemed African Writers Series (AWS).
He wrote many other plays, notably Naira and Kobo which was staged at St. Peter’s Secondary School, Achina, Anambra State in 1973. His last play, The Women’s Coup, was published in 2010.

He is survived by his wife, son Jude, daughter Sabina and grandchildren.
