A married female teacher has confessed to taking a 15-year-old schoolgirl home so she could perform sex acts on her.
36-year-old Lauren Coyle-Mitchell, pleaded guilty in Bergen County Superior Court to aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police in New Jersey were horrified at the details of the crimes, NJ.com reports.
A court was told the married teacher took the girl to her home in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, in 2015, and performed oral sex on her.
The former second-grade teacher in Jersey City admitted Wednesday she sexually assaulted the underage student.
Court officials confirmed that under a plea bargain, Coyle-Mitchell faces five years in state prison, parole supervision for life and will be required to register as a sex offender.
She will also be barred from public employment and must forfeit her teaching certificates.
According to the report, Coyle-Mitchell worked at Dr Lena Edwards Academic Charter School in Jersey City.
Teachers at the school contacted police and claimed she had inappropriate contact with the student.
Investigators charged Coyle-Mitchell with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child in June 2015.
A month later, she was arrested again and accused of breaking a no-contact order by trying to call and text the victim.
In May 2018, the Board of Examiners, the state’s teacher licensing agency, suspended Coyle-Mitchell’s certificates, which included teacher of elementary school and teacher of students with disabilities
A sentencing hearing has been set for August 2.
