The All Progressives Congress (APC), has dissociated itself from the early morning siege at the National Assembly by masked officials of the Department of State Services based on “orders from above.”
Reacting to siege which sparked outrage across social media platforms in Nigeria, Yekini Nabena, the acting National Publicity Secretary of the APC, alleged that what happened at the National Assembly was purely a “legislative matter.”
“Our attention has been drawn to mischievous attempts in some partisan quarters to link Tuesday’s developments in the National Assembly to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
“While the Party is monitoring the developments in the National Assembly like every other concerned Nigerian and stakeholder, there is absolutely no basis for all the false allegations and attempt to blame the APC National Chairman for the development there. It is strictly a legislative matter.”
A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank had raised an alarm in a statement released on Tuesday morning. According to Frank, the 30 APC Senators were being led by the Senate leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, APC, Yobe North.
He said that the APC National Chairman, the DSS and the APC Senators group met last night in Abuja to perfect strategies on how to carry out the plot. Frank claimed that he had reliable information that the meeting was at the instance of Oshiomhole who is currently pressurizing President Muhammadu Buhari to accept his proposal of using “crude tactics” to topple Saraki and his Deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
According to him, reliable information emanating from the meeting, that National Vice Chairman (Southwest) of the APC, Chief Adeniyi Adebayo, joined Oshiomhole in pushing for the illegality while some APC Senators and House of Representatives members at the meeting kicked against the plot saying any forceful removal of Saraki without due process will not be accepted by Nigerians.”
