Senator Godswill Akpabio who is expected to defect to the APC from PDP tomorrow, has arrived Uyo the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Earlier today, we reported that Senator Godswill Akpabio resigned his position as the Senate Minority Leader. In his resignation letter sent to the Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, he said his resignation came into effect on August 4th.
He shared a photo of the letter on his Twitter handle; @SenatorAkpabio.
The letter read in part, “This letter is to formally inform you of my resignation as the senate minority leader with effect from August 4, 2018.
“Let me thank the senate minority leadership, our distinguished colleagues and our great party, the PDP for the opportunity to lead the caucus in the last three years.
“Please accept the assurances of my highest esteem.”
Senator Akpabio had on Sunday met with President Muhammadu Buhari, and on Monday consulted with All Progressive Congress National Leader, Bola Tinubu in Abuja. Mr Akpabio, regarded as one of the most influential politicians in Akwa Ibom and Nigeria’s South-South region, handpicked Udom Emmanuel, and helped him and Mr Ekpo win election as governor and deputy governor respectively in 2015. The deputy governor is Mr Akpabio’s kinsman.
Akpabio’s arrival is coming few hours after Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Moses Ekpo, denied media reports that he has resigned or plans to resign from office.
There have been reports of several officials resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Akwa Ibom state government, following the planned defection of a senator, Godwill Akpabio, from the opposition PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Some officials, like the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke, the senator representing Uyo Senatorial District, Bassey Albert, and some legislators have refuted such reports as fake.
